The Bakersfield based artist and New York native, Lisa Miller Faulkenberry, has explored multiple mediums throughout her life. Her early interest included all forms of artistic expression ranging from woodworking, interior design, photography to sketching and painting. This multifaceted approach and broad love for all things art has helped Lisa hold onto this passion throughout her adult life as she raised three children, entered in the business realm, and pursued her lifelong dream of raising and showing horses on a ranch with her husband in the sprawling foothills of California's central valley.
Though her art would many times find itself put aside as she cared for her family and pursued her career, Lisa would continue to harbor dreams of one day being able to find a season in life to dedicate to her artistic pursuits and love for nature and its awe-inspiring beauty.
Lisa would find this season in life through tragedy, as her mother, an artist in her own right, found herself fighting for her life, eventually succumbing to her illness with her daughter by her side. The loss of her mother left Lisa seeking peace. Eventually she found comfort on the day she picked up her mother’s paintbrushes and began to paint.
Canvas painting reunited her artistic passion and motivated her to make it a priority. Lisa’s art has evolved from the depths of sorrow and grief, helping her to find peace and understanding in her loss. It is a healing that continues to soothe her soul with each brush stroke.
Lisa is inspired greatly by her mother’s work, along with spending many hours in nature and with her animals. These elements continue to inspire Lisa to capture the essence of the natural world and all its complexities, conveying the ever-present struggle of existence in her paintings and bringing life to the canvas.
Midway through 2023, Lisa felt compelled to combine her natural abilities and passion with new skills and expertise. She found this knowledge at Kathy Shilling Studios. Kathy's instruction provided her the opportunity to learn foundational techniques, explore new mediums, and push beyond and expand her creativity.
From Lisa’s perspective, the following two artists stated it perfectly…
“Art is to console those who are broken by life”
- Vincent Van Gogh
“The richness I achieve comes from nature, the source of my inspiration”
– Claude Monet
