Lisa Faulkenberry

Lisa Faulkenberry is a multidisciplinary artist whose work bridges the soulful realism of the Western lifestyle with the expressive energy of abstract and surreal art. Deeply inspired by the beauty of nature and the enduring spirit of animals, her paintings reflect both the strength and the soul of her subjects—whether it’s the powerful presence of a horse or the quiet pull of a dreamlike landscape.

Originally from New York, Lisa grew up surrounded by the peaceful countryside, where her love for animals—especially horses—and the natural world first took root. For the past 37 years, she has called Bakersfield, California home. She and her husband live on a small horse ranch nestled in the foothills, where golden grasslands, beckoning mountains, and breathtaking sunrises continually inspire her creative work.

Working primarily in acrylic, oil, and mixed media, Lisa blends realism and abstraction through bold brushwork, layered textures, and intuitive composition. Her Western subjects—horses, cattle, landscapes, barns, cowboys, and cowgirls—are painted with vitality and reverence, while her more abstract and surreal works explore inner worlds, symbolic landscapes, and the mysteries of memory, emotion, and perception.

Lisa’s process is deeply intuitive, guided by the emotional energy of color and the layered rhythms of mark-making. Whether exploring the Western spirit or the unseen realms of imagination, her work invites viewers into spaces of connection, reflection, and quiet magic.

“There’s a quiet magic in the in-between—between seen and unseen, reality and dream. That’s where I like to paint.” — Lisa Faulkenberry
