Lisa Faulkenberry is a multidisciplinary artist whose work bridges the soulful realism of the Western lifestyle with the expressive energy of abstract and surreal art. Inspired by the beauty of nature and the enduring spirit of animals, her paintings capture both the strength and soul of her subjects—whether the powerful presence of a horse or the quiet pull of a dreamlike landscape.
Originally from New York, Lisa grew up in the peaceful countryside, where her love for animals—especially horses—and the natural world first took root. For the past 37 years, she has made Bakersfield, California, her home. She and her husband live on a small horse ranch in the foothills, where golden grasslands, distant mountains, and breathtaking sunrises continually inspire her creative vision.
Working primarily in acrylic, oil, and mixed media, Lisa blends realism and abstraction through bold brushwork, layered textures, and intuitive composition. Her Western subjects—horses, cattle, landscapes, barns, cowboys, and cowgirls—are painted with vitality and reverence, while her abstract and surreal works explore inner worlds, symbolic landscapes, and the mysteries of memory, emotion, and perception.
Guided by intuition and the emotional energy of color, Lisa’s process layers rhythm, texture, and movement to create paintings that invite viewers into spaces of connection, reflection, and quiet magic.
